About us |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Our School Step by Step has been evolving since it opened. We have successfully developed a unique curriculum that meets the complex needs and abilities of each pupil. The curriculum, which is delivered through 1:1 teaching, is highly individualised, developmental and holistic. We provide on-going training to staff to ensure they are fully informed and effective in the various teaching approaches we use and up-to-date with current developments in the field. We recognise the wide range of needs across the autistic spectrum and don't believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Input is specifically tailored to meet each pupil's individual needs across all areas of development. Communication with parents is key to our approach and ensures consistency and continuity of input which is essential to pupils' progress. |

Our Pupils All our pupils have severe social and communication difficulties and moderate to severe learning difficulties. Many have other associated difficulties such as: sensory processing issues, challenging behaviours and food intolerances. Most of our pupils have a Statement of Special Educational Needs and their places are funded by their Local Education Authorities. We have set up 'inclusion programmes' for pupils who are able to access, and would benefit from integration with mainstream peers. We have formed strong and positive links with two local primary schools and these have led to the successful part-time integration of a number of pupils. We currently have capacity for 20 children. We have two classes of mixed age and ability at Primary level and one new class at Secondary level. |
